Is there anything more beautiful than Georgia in the springtime? Not in this world. The Atlanta area is abloom when the verdant, vernal season comes ‘round. Like pollen in the air, so too can be heard the ubiquitous din of spring festivals. It’s the time of year to go out and see what’s happening.
Let’s explore the best springtime events around Smyrna.
SPRING JONQUIL FESTIVAL
The Village Green in downtown Smyrna is host to a perennial favorite. The Spring Jonquil Festival is put on each year by the City of Smyrna. It features, says the city, “over 175 arts & crafts booths, 15 food booths, an entertainment stage, and a variety of children's activities.” Bring the whole family for a weekend’s worth of entertainment at the end of April.
Come hungry. The festival foods include (but are certainly not limited to) cotton candy, candy apples, corn dogs, hand-dipped ice cream, snow cones, polish sausage, chicken sandwiches and BBQ.
SMYRNA CRAWFISH BOIL
Some people call them crawfish. They are also known variously as crayfish, crawdads, freshwater lobsters, mountain lobsters, mudbugs or yabbies.
Whatever you call the little red pinchers, ring the the spring southern-style this April at the Smyrna Crawfish Boil. The delicious little crustaceans come to you fresh from New Orleans. I declare! Atkins Park hosts two days of the best food, fun and music this side of the bayou. Wash it all down with some cold pints of Abita Beer, the New Orleans beer!
TASTE OF MARIETTA
The last Sunday of April is the annual date for the Taste of Marietta. It’s held in the heart of the city at the Historic Marietta Square. You’ll be able to sample the best from over 85 of Cobb County’s restaurants and caterers. The food is reasonably priced but festival is free!
Go out and mingle with all those vernal energies. Enjoy the best springtime events around Smyrna!
